The fifth Tohoku Internship Project has concluded on Sunday, March 11, as the students from Takata High School headed back to their hometown. Since 2012, the CCCJ and Ganbatte365 have been active in organizing the program, which welcomes high school students from Rikuzentakata for a week-long internship and homestay experience in Tokyo.

On February 15, we hosted a double event - a Housewarming party for the new CCCJ office, and then a Canadian hockey night at the nearby Brew La La bar. Both events were open for everyone and attracted a good number of people.

Membership rights of Canadian Chambers of Commerce have been expanded with a new cross-chamber agreement.

On January 15, the CCCJ co-hosted the 2018 ICT Shinnenkai together with the AFCEA and the ACCJ's Information, Communications and Technology Committee. The event took place at The New Sanno Hotel in Hiroo.

The CCCJ CSR Committee announced on October 16, 2017 that with the partnership with HOPE International Development Agency, it will contribute JPY 180,000 towards a new well for rural Cambodia, capable of providing safe and clean drinking water to 4-6 families (20-30 people)

The Japan-Canada Joint Chamber Council meeting takes place once a year alternating between Japan and Canada, to discuss bilateral business relationship and partnership between Japan and Canada. This year was attended by members of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC), Sendai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (CCCJ).

Friday, July 21st, 2017, CCCJ held joint Chamber cocktails part at Embassy of Canada in Japan. 13 chambers and over 300 participants joined and this was one of the biggest business network events in this summer. People in attendance built new relationship each other, and they enjoyed seasonal foods and drinks at beautiful terrace. We would like to appreciate Chivas Regal and Nestle Japan for donating cocktail selection and prizes, and for supporting as a sponsor. We are looking forward to seeing you next year again.

On July 30th, CCCJ held the Canadian Foundation 150th anniversary event with Embassy of Canada in Japan. In addition to more than 450 participants from various Canada-Japan business communities, the representatives of CCCJ and the Embassy were in attendance. Ian Burney, ambassador of Canada welcomed the guests in rainy day, expressed importance of Canada-Japan relation and to build a further strong relationship.

On June 22nd, CCCJ held Annual General Meeting to Japan at Embassy of Canada. New chairman, Neil van Wouw welcomed members at the meeting.

The CCCJ launched its inaugural Executive Forum, inviting chamber executives to discuss their businesses together including the challenges and opportunities that they face in Japan. Ambassador of Canada to Japan Ian Burney welcomed the attendees to the Official Residence, stressing the importance of a strong chamber and how the organization can help Canadians and Canadian firms in their respective sectors. In the discussion, Ambassador Burney reiterated Canada's goal to sign a trade agreement with Japan, as well as expressing his optimism towards the future Canada-Japan trade relationship.

Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) conducts a survey every year on the obstacles foreign-affliated companies face in Japan and the the attractiveness of Japan the companies feel for the purpose to improve the business environment in Japan. The result will be utilized as a source of policy proposals to the government for deregulations and reforms on administrative procedures.
